SOME THINGS TO PONDER

The price of oil has remained fairly constant the past few weeks, but the price of gasoline has taken off like a NASA rocket. Can this be attributed to the market place at work, as we are led to believe, or the well laid plans of the big oil companies?

I tend to believe it is the latter, since no new refineries have been built since 1977, nor are there plans on the drawing boards for any more capacity.

All of a sudden, this turns out to be an unusual year, in that consumption has dramatically increased in what normally should be a slow season. No explanation is given for the big increase in consumption.

Not satisfied, two big refinery fires are thrown into the mix, as a booster rocket, to propel the prices higher.

Gasoline is taxed not by the gallon, but rather the price of that gallon. Oh those tax coffers will be over flowing, could be a reason we do not hear from the politicians. They are to busy finding ways to spend this new found wealth.

Can't wait for July and the reporting of profits for the second quarter. What song and dance are we going to get then?

NEWS FLASH: Exxon just reported, record profits for first quarter. Must be the good management there.

I think big oil is also in cahoots with the auto makers...seems like the price of gas gets raised, everybody trades in their giant SUVs for economy cars to drive to work, then the price of gas goes down and everybody dumps their small cars and buys the biggest truck they can find to ride around. I also think the weathermen are in cahoots with the grocery stores...whenever the grocery stores need to clear the shelves of old product, they just tell the weathermen to predict a snow storm. I've also been accused of being paranoid, too ;-)

Seriously, something is wrong when the oil companies are making THAT much money and as a nation we're in deep debt paying to get them a sweet deal for the big pool under Iraq.

Agreed! I need to get my lazy butt biking instead of driving and overcome my co-dependent, obsessive relationship with the American Engine... (preferably a 420... see, big oil has me addicted to their drug.)

Joe, we get it stuck in both ends. Paying high prices at the pump and then in taxes, as we pay and they collect in subsidies, and then flaunt their obscene profits in our faces.

LaSirena, can you imagine what would happen if we picked a weekend in July, and everyone stayed home, and didn't play with all their gas powered toys. There would be such a glut of gas and oil, that it would go back down under $2 a gallon.

Keep dreaming, the only way we will see $2 prices again is if it is per liter! Of all the things that make me crazy (of which there are many) is that the oil companies also get subsidized to support their infrastructure & where does it go? Maybe after the Dems impeach, they can find that out as well...

Joe, how does the saying go? "...just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get you.

True!

Did you all see the story about the broken oil meters in Iraq? Nobody can tell how much oil has been smuggled and sold. What a mess.

When are they going to have enough money? The greed is just unbelievable.
